The Competine Trail extension project is complete, and the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its opening tomorrow. Parks & Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers says he’s excited to officially open the extension.
“It’s been a long project, but it’s open, it’s paved, it’s graded, there’s grass coming up. It’s been open for a couple weeks now, so we’re pretty excited about that. We expect a pretty good crowd, we’ve invited quite a few people who have had a hand in it to get to this point.”
The trail is now two miles long, beginning at Randy Wilson Track and ending at 5th Street. The project included construction of a safe crossing of Highway 14, and paving along Competine Creek.
The ribbon cutting will take place where the trail extension started on the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics grounds. It begins at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8th, and is open to the public.
