The early season schedule hasn’t been kind to the Pella Christian volleyball team as they have already faced four ranked teams in their first eight games this season. Things won’t get any easier for the Eagles as tonight they welcome Little Hawkeye Conference opponent Indianola, who is ranked #13 in Class 4A.
While the tough schedule has led to some early season struggles, senior Sarah Gritters has shined as the top hitter for the Pella Christian squad this season. Gritters has 71 of the team’s 169 kills through Pella Christian’s first eight matches of the season. Eagles Head Coach Tammi Wight believes that Gritters’ work ethic and natural volleyball abilities has helped contribute to her early season success.
“She’s just a good athlete, she is not a kid who has played club but she just works really hard and is kind of a natural talent. If she does go on to play volleyball in college, which she should in my opinion, somebody is going to find a jewel because she’s a very good and very talented volleyball player. And she doesn’t even really know quite to the extent how good she could be.”
The 2-6 Eagles will play host to the 6-4 Indians tonight on Eagle Lane at 7:15 pm.
