Several Simpson College fall sports teams were in action over the weekend, with men’s and women’s soccer along with volleyball all competing. The Storm women’s soccer team outshot Benedictine 15-5 and connected on the only goal of the match off the foot of Megan Roberts in the second half to win 1-0. Simpson is now 1-1-0 on the season, and they will next compete against Knox tomorrow.
The Storm men again found late heroics to stay unbeaten on the season, after scoring a late goal in regulation to force overtime then coming up with the extra period winner to pick up a 2-1 win over Hamline. The Storm were down 1-0 until the 89th minute when Jordy Triana-Vazquez tied the score, then Ricardo Ibarra scored the game winner in OT. The Storm are now 2-0-0 on the year and play Carleton tomorrow.
The Simpson volleyball squad competed in the Central/Grinnell Invitational Tournament over the weekend, dropping their first match to Minnesota Morris 1-3, then taking down Wisconsin-Superior 3-1, and sweeping Dominican 3-0 to go 2-1 overall on the weekend. Junior Jessica Jacobs and freshman Courtney Paxton were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Storm are now 2-2 on the year, and begin conference action next Wednesday hosting Nebraska Wesleyan in the Cowles Fieldhouse.
