A clash of ranked teams in 4A highlights a conference rivalry at Pella High School this evening as No. 5 Indianola brings their 2-0 record to town against No. 8 Pella.

The 1-1 Dutch bounced back last Friday against North Polk after falling to another Warren County School, and currently No. 4 Norwalk in week one.

Pella Head Coach Jay McKinstrey believes to find a win against Indianola, his guys will have to elevate their game even further, as he believes the Indians may be one of the true contenders to make a run at a 4A title later this fall.

“Their explosive play capability is incredible, they’ve had a lot of big plays, and certainly that and turnovers are the key factors now,” he says. “So that’s one of our goals this week, is to try and keep everything in front of us and eliminate the explosive play, and to make them drive the length of the field if they can do it.”

Indianola brings Preseason All-Iowa Running Back Selection Kael Kolarik into town, as well as state track 100 meter dash runner up Carter Erickson and First-Team All-Conference Basketball Selection Drew Kingery as some of the stars to watch.

Tonight is Heroes’ Night at the field — all first responders and active or veteran military service members get free admission and a concession stand meal. Coverage of Pella vs. Indianola football begins at 6:30 p.m. on the KRLS2 stream and on the Pella Dutch Live YouTube channel.
