Cases of COVID-19 are significantly on the rise in Warren County, with 143 new positive tests over the last week, nearly double the average from earlier this summer, with a 11% test positivity rate. Eighty-seven percent of the new positive cases come from those aged 59 and under.
The Indianola Community School District COVID-19 dashboard shows six students or staff in the high school absent, seven in the middle school, and between 0-5 students or staff in each of the four elementary schools. Any cases less than six must be reported as between 0-5.
The New York Times Coronavirus Database shows 51% of Warren County residents are fully vaccinated, while Iowa as a state is 52%, and the current risk in the county for unvaccinated adults is listed as extreme.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa residents not fully vaccinated account for 79.4% of patients hospitalized for COVID-19, and 88% of the ICU beds.
