The 16th-ranked Central College football team racked up more than 300 yards both passing and rushing Saturday afternoon in a dominating 69-13 victory over Kalamazoo (MI) as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Dutch starters were on the bench by the middle of the second quarter, with quarterback Blaine Hawkins completing 15-of-16 passes for 227 yards and four touchdowns.  Three of them went to Jeff Herbers, who caught seven passes for 173 yards.  In total, nine different Dutch players either threw, rushed or caught a touchdown Saturday afternoon.

While it was an impressive victory against an overmatched opponent, Central head coach Jeff McMartin says it’s just one step on the journey.

“What we talked to the team about just now is about getting better.  We don’t want this to be the best we play this entire season.  We want to keep working on our focus and the drive for excellence, and I think a lot of good things can happen yet.”

Central finishes non-conference play with a 2-0 record.  They’ll open the American Rivers Conference portion of the season next Saturday afternoon at home against Nebraska Wesleyan.
