The Pella Christian Volleyball schedule matched the Eagles up against five ranked opponents through their first nine games. This week provides a little relief from the tough schedule as just two of the Eagle’s six opponents currently reside in the IGHSAU rankings.
For the first time this season the Eagles will begin the week with more matches against unranked teams than ranked teams. Pella Christian travels to Grinnell on Tuesday for a Little Hawkeye Conference showdown, then the Eagles will play in Urbandale on Thursday in the Des Moines Christian Invitational. In addition to Pella Christian, the Invitational will feature the host Lions who are the #5 team in Class 2A, Class 1A’s #15 ranked team Southeast Warren, Knoxville, and Newton. Even with a lighter schedule this week Eagles Head Coach Tammi Wight knows her squad can’t overlook any opponent.
“The biggest goal for me is for our team to compete in every situation, no matter who’s on the other side. To be honest that goal is really not measurable, so in terms of measurable goals, we need to limit errors and I think that we will. And we’ll be more competitive. We just need to build off that and learn from our mistakes and do it right the next time.”
Tuesday’s match between the 2-7 Eagles and the 3-4 Tigers will be at 7:15 pm at Grinnell High School.
