Friday is National POW/MIA (Prisoners of War/Missing in Action) Recognition Day. To commemorate the occasion, a ceremony will be held in Knoxville, hosted by veteran Carole Rowland. She’ll share a history of the day, share some figures about those missing in action, and honor those who returned after being held as prisoners of war. She says it’s important for Americans to recognize the meaning of the day of remembrance.

“I just think that as Americans, we owe it to our veterans and troops that are still serving to remember. They should know that we’re behind them, and that we will always remember.”

The event begins at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the bandstand near the courthouse in Knoxville. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The recognition day is the third Friday of each September.
