For the third time in four non-district games, the Pella High football team will square off against a top-ten opponent, this time against the 7th-ranked Bluejays at Bondurant-Farrar High School.

Coached by former Central College defensive coordinator Zach Pfantz, the Bluejays are off to a 3-0 start.  In those three games, they’re outscoring their opponents by an average of 43-13, and allowing less than 70 yards per game rushing.  Pella coach Jay McKinstrey says that they need to be able to run the football tonight, but it’s not going to be easy.

“We’re trying to get to the hole so fast that it’s different than coming from a shotgun formation.  So hopefully we can still have some success doing that because it’s a different way of attacking.  Since we’re not in the shotgun, we can hit the hole quicker.  We also want to put the ball up in the air a little bit more and threaten that way, and we’re going to have to be able to do that, because structurally they want to stop the run.”

This is the last non-district game of the season for the Dutch, who are off to a 1-2 start.  Opening kick is at 7:30 tonight at Bondurant-Farrar.  Trevor Castle and Randy Sikkema will have the call on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame at 6:30.
