The Pella Christian and PCM Cross Country Teams will compete Monday evening in the PCM Invitational at Gateway Golf Course in Monroe.
The Eagles boys squad began last week entering the Iowa Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings for the first time since 2010 as the #20 team in Class 1A. To wrap up the week, the Pella Christian boys won the Lynnville-Sully Cross Country Invitational on Thursday, having five runners finish in the Top 17.
First year cross country runner Joslyn Terpstra continued a fantastic start to her career for the Pella Christian girls’ squad, as she placed second in both the Oskaloosa and Lynnville-Sully meets last week. Those finishes gave Terpstra her third top two finish in her first three career races. Jaclyn Holmes finished top six in both meets, placing sixth in the Oskaloosa meet, and fourth in the Lynnville-Sully meet.
With multiple runners having strong finishes in the last few meets, Eagles Head Coach Mike Buchheit knew that his team needed just a couple strong finishers for his team’s to achieve success.
“I feel like our team, as we establish a little better culture, a little stronger depth, we really need that runner that’s going to be out front that brings confidence to the team and stretches our team to believe that they can push themselves up into those top spots.”
The PCM Cross Country teams last ran last Monday in the Pleasantville Invitational. Paige Steenhoek’s sixth place finish helped propel the Mustangs girls’ squad to fourth place overall. Kyle Sanders finished 38th for the PCM boy’s squad, but the team didn’t qualify for team scoring.
The PCM Invitational at Gateway Golf Course in Monroe is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.
