The Iowa Legislative Services Agency has released preliminary redistricting maps. Marion County has been placed in U.S. House District 3, which is a change from District 2. This would be a change in representation from the seat currently held by Marianette Miller-Meeks to the seat currently held by Cindy Axne.
All of Marion County is in Senate District 13, which also includes the entirety of Monroe, Appanoose, and Davis Counties, as well as the eastern portion of Lucas County. Marion County is currently split between two senate districts, and is represented by Amy Sinclair of Allerton and Ken Rozenboom of Oskaloosa. Under the new proposed map, neither would represent Marion County.
Proposed Iowa House District 26 encompasses all except a portion of southeastern Marion County. The remaining portion includes the cities of Bussey, Hamilton and Marysville, and is in District 25 with the entirety of Monroe, Appanoose, and Davis Counties, as well as the eastern portion of Lucas County. Much of Marion County is currently represented by Jon Thorup of Knoxville. Lake Prairie Township and the City of Pella are represented by Dustin Hite of New Sharon, who would no longer be in the same district.
These maps are proposals, with public hearings scheduled for September 20th-22nd, followed by a special legislative session to approve or deny. View an interactive map here.
