The conference opener for the Simpson College Storm football squad did not garner the Storm their first win of the season, falling to Coe 42-22 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Storm gained 450 yards on offense, but didn’t find paydirt enough to keep up with the Kohawks, who led from start to finish.

Coe got the scoring started in the second quarter after both teams were held scoreless in the first, with Simpson answering with a Brett Bobinet to Reed Worth touchdown strike. A missed extra point led to a 7-6 scoreline, and the Kohawks expanded on the lead with a pair of touchdowns in the quarter while Simpson only had a field goal to trail 21-9 at half. The second half was all Coe, scoring another three touchdowns, while the Storm connected on passing touchdowns to Worth and Joe McNally. Head coach Matt Jeter tells KNIA Sports his team is not playing confidently and up to their potential.

“We’re not playing complementary football. When you are 0-3, you are doing 0-3 stuff with the little details, not playing complementary football and being smart. And that’s on me. I take heed of that, and I need to do a better job of leading and managing guys and making sure we are on the same page.”

Bobinet threw for 309 yards and three scores, while McNally had 163 receiving yards on eight receptions. The Storm are now 0-3, and face another tough test at home on Saturday hosting Central.
