A strong cold front brought severe weather to south central Iowa this afternoon and evening, and behind it, a burst of fall-like air.
The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. for four different severe thunderstorm warnings prompted by strong wind gusts across mainly the southern halves of Marion and Warren Counties. Eight staff members contributed to live coverage with reports from Melcher-Dallas and near Tracy, as well as reports from Weatherology meteorologists.
Much-needed rainfall was recorded across the region, with many areas south of Highway 92 in Warren County receiving more than an inch. Local rainfall amounts:
Knoxville – .59″
Pella – .33″
Lake Red Rock – .21″
Indianola – .17″
White Breast near Melcher Dallas – .96″
Cedar Creek near Bussey – .43″
Fall-like air will dominate the region through Saturday night, with daytime highs in the low to mid-70s and overnight lows in the mid-40s to low-50s.
The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion and Warren Counties, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
