Coming into last week’s Norwalk football game against Dallas Center-Grimes, Coach Paul Patterson put heavy emphasis on the run game, an area the Warriors had not excelled in prior games this season. Despite a slow start and a scoreless first half, Norwalk stuck with that gameplan, and it paid off. Quarterback Landon Hochstein was the leading rusher, carrying it 24 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns. He says his team was able to wear down the defense and put together one of their best performances of the season.
“I think the biggest thing is that when you run the ball like that, they have to put more people in the box. It opens up the playbook and allows us to do things that when you’re one-dimensional, you can’t necessarily do. In the first half we were a little slow, but we made some adjustments at halftime. In the second half, I think we ran the ball the best we have all year. Luke Jones and Chase Monroe both ran really hard. We found ourselves in a lot of good positions to score thanks to our defense, and we put some points on the board.”
Jones and Monroe combined for 105 rushing yards for 208 total. Hear more from Norwalk quarterback Landon Hochstein on Friday’s Player Profile during the Jeromy Dingeman Concrete Football Friday Night Radio Preview Show.
