Following what became a bye week forced by the forfeit of Van Buren, the #4 Pella Christian football team finds themselves in what will likely be a determining game in the Class 1A District 6 championship race, as the 6th-ranked Cobras of Sigourney-Keota trek to Eagle Lane this evening.
Both squads enter the evening at 4-0; while the Eagles were off on September 17th, the Cobras easily dispatched Pleasantville 42-0 to open district competition. Sigourney is a run-heavy single wing team, led by Cade Molyneux and his 833 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing and the battle at the line of scrimmage will be one of the matchups to watch, according to Eagles Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski.
The winner of tonight’s contest not only gives themselves a path to a district title, but an advantageous road to Cedar Falls and the UNI Dome; Sigourney-Keota was among the final four teams last year, while the road for the Eagles ended to the eventual runners-up and heavy 2021 favorites Van Meter.
Coverage of the top ten showdown on Eagle Lane begins at 6:30 p.m. on the KRLS2 Stream and the Pella Christian High School YouTube channel. It’s also Alumni Night, with special activities and events ongoing at the field.
