One of the best small-school rivalries around will be renewed tonight in the 29th meeting of Twin Cedars and Melcher-Dallas. Not much has gone right for the Twin Cedars Football Squad this season. However, tonight would go a long way to putting the season on the right track as the Sabers host arch-rival Melcher-Dallas in the Annual Marion County Eight-Man Championship. Coach Cam Parker tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it does not matter if one team is struggling and the other is undefeated, it is still a battle.
Parker:
“This is a game that is always competitive, and it’s kind of like Iowa/Iowa State and both teams will come ready to play, and that traveling trophy up for grab and we hope to get that W.”
Meanwhile on the southwest side of Marion County, The Saints have not had a great start to the season, either with just one win two weeks ago over Seymour. Saints Coach Pat Ferguson tells KNIA Sports both teams mirror each other so it could be a competitive game.
Ferguson:
“They’re a lot like us, 15-1`7 guys when fully healthy. We’ve had some success lately, they know each other, and talk through social media if they don’t hang out, so it’ll be a great match up for both sides.”
The Saints currently hold possession of the traveling trophy that goes to the winner each game with Melcher-Dallas riding a four game winning streak and holding a 17-11 all time lead. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 from Twin Cedars Field.
