Hawkins was on the field for just 7:26 of the game’s 60 minutes yet set new school records with seven touchdown passes and 424 passing yards. He completed 22 of 24 passes and became the first quarterback in school history to throw 100 career touchdown passes. He did not play in the second half.as Central barreled to a 56-3 halftime lead.

Earlier Hawkins was named the American Rivers offensive player of the week for the seventh time in his career. He was the 2019 league offensive player of the year. It’s the fourth time he’s received the D3football.com weekly honor.

Durbala notched 1.5 of Central’s five quarterback sacks Saturday and finished with six tackles. A D3football.com All-America honoree last spring and a preseason all-America pick this year, Durbala received the site’s team of the week distinction for the third time. Head Coach Jeff McMartin says Durbala bolsters one of the most talented position groups for his team.

“You have to be good up front on the defensive line to be a good football team. You can’t let them move the ball at will. Our defensive line, through four games, has done very well, we want them to continue to improve. I thought they were very opportunistic and helped our team a lot on Saturday.”

Central, ranked No. 13 in the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Poll and No. 14 in the D3football.com Top 25, takes on league title contender Wartburg College Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m. at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella.
