The Eagles volleyball team made the long road trip on Saturday to compete in the Greene County Tournament and went 3-2 on the day.
Pella Christian defeated Carroll in a hard fought match (21-15, 19-21, 15-11) before sweeping Des Moines Hoover (21-8, 21-9) and Boone (21-9, 21-17) with relative ease. The Eagles two losses came in their first match of the day to the hosts (21-13, 17-21, 11-15) and in the championship match to undefeated #3 in 2A South Hardin (10-21, 21-13, 9-15).
The Eagles offense had five girls finish the tournament recording 10 or more kills, while the defense also had five girls finish with 10 or more digs and two girls finish with five or more blocks.
Pella Christian improved to 12-14 after the tournament. The Eagles will begin another tough stretch on their schedule this Tuesday when they welcome #7 in 4A Oskaloosa to Eagle Lane at 7:15 pm.
The Pella Christian Cross Country season is nearing the end of the regular season following the Panther Invitational in Knoxville last Tuesday. With that meet behind them, The Eagles have just one varsity meet before the Little Hawkeye Conference meet and the State Qualifying meet.
The Panther Invitational got off to a great start for the Eagles as Joslyn Terpstra and Jaclyn Holmes brought home a first and third place finish that led the Pella Christian girls squad to a fifth place team finish. The #17 ranked team in Class 1A Eagles boys team came in eighth place led by Ryan Natelborg’s 22nd place finish. While the Eagles have run well this season, Natelborg believes the Eagles can be even better by the Conference meet on October 11th.
“I would say we got a lot of work to do. A lot of time to drop yet, and especially coming into conference. It’s a really big meet and there’s a lot of big schools and state qualifying is a really important meet too. So it’s important we perform well there too.”
The Eagles final meet before conference is Tuesday at Honey Creek Resort State Park in Moravia at 5 pm.
