Record-setting Central College quarterback Blaine Hawkins is the American Rivers Conference male athlete of the week. Meanwhile Bronwyn Metcalf was tabbed as the women’s tennis player of the week.
Hawkins fired six touchdown passes in a pivotal 49-24 homecoming victory over Wartburg College Saturday, completing 21 of 29 passes for 297 yards without an interception. He also rushed 11 times for 30 yards. He’s thrown 163 consecutive passes without an interception.
It’s the third time Hawkins has been named the league male athlete of the week. He was also tabbed as the conference football offensive player of the week for the eighth time and the second week in a row. The No. 11-rated Dutch (5-0 overall, 3-0 conference) travel to Cedar Rapids to meet Coe College Saturday.
Metcalf went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Jennifer Larson to win a pair of matches at No. 2 doubles. The Dutch were at Dubuque Saturday and defeated the University of Dubuque 9-0 and Loras College 8-1 to improve to 8-5 overall and 6-0 in league play. Metcalf is 7-7 overall in singles and 4-3 with Larson in doubles. The Dutch play host to league favorite Luther College at Pella Friday at 4 p.m.
