Students at Jefferson Intermediate School in Pella spent their time in art class last month working on a project aimed to educate them not only about their skills on paper, but about what it means for military members to serve overseas.
Teacher Heidi Whaley says her students have been working on a patriotic project featuring Op Art American flags. While planning for this project, she discovered that the father of one of her students is currently deployed in the Middle East. At one point he had approached another art teacher in town asking if there was any way she could help students create and send original, patriotic student artwork to his National Guard unit.
Hear from the students in the art class about the project on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
