The #6 Indianola football team outgained Carlisle on the road Friday evening, winning 38-14 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA. Indianola struck first on a Kael Kolarik 1-yard rushing score, but the Wildcats answered immediately with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to tie the contest, only to see the Indians come right back with a Bennett Brueck to Drew Kingery connection of 5 yards for the Indians to go up 14-7.
The Indians added a field goal from Steph Stark, and another passing touchdown to Colton Gordon to take a 24-7 lead at the halftime break. The Wildcats made it close with a score on their first drive of the second half, however a missed field goal on their next drive allowed the Indians to get another touchdown from Kingery, and added another from Kolarik to seal the win.
Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the Indians ground game gave them a huge boost in the win.
“We ran the ball so much better tonight. That was talked about quite a bit in our staff meetings and with the team. We have to run the football, and that will only make our passing game better and I think that’s exactly what happened tonight.”
Kolarik and Matthew Edgington each had over 100 yards rushing on the day, with Brueck throwing three scores. Indianola improves to 6-1 on the season, and has a critical matchup with undefeated #3 Bondurant-Farrar at home next week.
