An Indianola man has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle – Reckless Driving, and Homicide by Vehicle – Drag Racing, after a crash in August led to the death of a Pleasantville man.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Steven Elmer Clark of Indianola and 53-year-old John Schmidt of Pleasantville were traveling southbound on the Hwy 65 bypass at high rates of speed and involved in a road rage incident, when Schmidt lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center median where he collided with two vehicles causing significant damage. Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clark turned himself into the Polk County Jail on October 12th. Homicide by Vehicle – Reckless Driving is a class “C” felony, and Homicide by Vehicle – Drag Racing is a class “D” felony.
