The 2021 Knoxville Cancer Relay begins today. The relay consists of groups of people running around Knoxville for 24 hours to raise money for Knoxville Coaches vs. Cancer, with other fundraisers surrounding the event. Co-organizer Jayme Braida says this is a great opportunity to support a cause that affects nearly everyone.

“Many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another, so it’s just our way to give back and do something positive. Many of us have been running this for a long time, for me it’s my third year. We go out and run several of the five-mile loops. So for me, it’s the longest I’ve ever ran. It’s a lot of work and a big commitment for team members, and we would love for people to come join us. We have a one-mile, three-mile and a five-mile loop that people can join in on. Just meet us at Ken Locke Stadium on the hour every hour, and we’ll send runners out. We’d love to have people support this cause.”

A kickoff party will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the start of the relay. People can also purchase an American Cancer Society sign in honor or memory of someone to be placed along Highway 14 during the run.
