Pleasantville Football Fights For Playoff Spot Against Cardinal of Eldon

Pleasantville’s football squad will fight for a playoff spot tonight as they square off at home with the Cardinal of Eldon Comets.

The Trojans come into the game with a 3-4 record and 1-3 in Class 1A District 6 play. Pleasantville broke their three-game losing streak last week by throttling Van Buren County, 45-8. The Trojans won thanks to 323 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Jacob Hiemstra, Jonah Schumacher, and Dillon Ammons each had 60 rushing yards or more in the victory. Coach Mack Jorth says that he is hoping for an exciting atmosphere at their home stadium tonight.

“For us to go through some real ups and downs this year and to still have a real meaningful game in the eighth week of the season is tremendous. I think it is a testament to our coaches and our players, how they just have been able to stick together and stick with it. I’m very excited for this game. Cardinal is a really, really good team, but it is a team we can beat if we play up to our abilities so I’m very excited to see what happens Friday night.”

This will be the first time the two teams have met since 1999. In that matchup, Pleasantville ran Cardinal off the field with a 58-6 victory. Kickoff at Pleasantville High School will begin at 7:00 PM.
