Rattling off four wins, the Central College women’s tennis tandem of Alyssa Lewton and Maddie Hartley won the A-Flight doubles at the American Rivers Conference Individual Championships Saturday. Lewton and 2020 graduate Karleigh Schilling won the previous iteration of the A-Flight doubles, making Central repeat champions. Lewton and Hartley started the day with an 8-3 victory over Sofia Sackett and Anna Olimpio.

In the second round, Lewton and Hartley won 8-0 against Emma Lassen and Jania Johnson of Coe College. They took down the No. 1 seed pairing of Anna Wanek and Emily King of Simpson College 8-6 in the semifinals. They closed out the day by beating Lexi Hastings and Renata Martinez of Luther in the title match 8-3.

Bronwyn Metcalf avenged her loss against Wartburg’s Meadow LaDuke last Saturday with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third-place match. It’s the best finish for a Central player in A-Flight singles since Ferrell’s arrival in 2014.

Macy Scharff became the third Central player since 2017 to win the C-Flight singles title, completing her run with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Wartburg College’s Sydney Stout.

Metcalf and Jennifer Larson made it to the semifinals of the B-Flight doubles bracket. Scharff and Alli Kreider lost in the quarterfinals.

In other Saturday action, the men’s and women’s soccer teams both lost to Wartburg by 2-0 scores, and the women’s triathlon team placed 7th in the East Region Qualifier.
