A Knoxville man faces felony domestic abuse charges following an incident Monday. Shortly after 8:00 p.m., Knoxville officers were advised of a domestic assault in progress in the 1300 block of S Lincoln Street. While en route, officers were advised by dispatch that the suspect, 31-year-old Joseph Max McVeigh, had fled on foot.

When officers arrived, the victim reported that a verbal argument escalated to a physical assault when McVeigh allegedly grabbed the victim around the neck and impeded the airway. Officers observed bruising consistent with the victim’s claim. A witness reported to officers that they witnessed a physical altercation prior to McVeigh’s departure.

A warrant for McVeigh’s arrest was served Tuesday, and a no contact order between the parties was issued. McVeigh faces charges of domestic assault causing choking/bodily injury, a Class D felony. Bond is set at $5,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 28th.
