Blaine Hawkins threw for six touchdowns and ran in another as the Central College football team rolled Loras 53-19 Saturday in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
Hawkins, who leads the country with 33 TDs and no interceptions this season, finished 28-of-36 on Saturday for 447 yards in barely two-and-a-half quarters. Erik Knaack grabbed 10 balls for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and Tanner Schminke had six catches for 146 yards and three scores, including an 89-yard catch and run. Schminke sung the praises of his quarterback after the victory.
“He does it week in and week out. It comes back to preparation in the film room and during practice. He’s one of those guys who’s always consistent and you can always count on him to do the right thing. It’s awesome to have him back there.”
Central also got a big game on defense from Brayden Egli, who picked off three Loras passes and tied for the team lead in tackles with seven.
With Dubuque’s 27-7 loss to Wartburg Saturday, Central is all alone in first place in the American Rivers Conference standings at 5-0. They’re 7-0 overall. Up next is a trip to Decorah next Saturday to take on winless Luther.
