Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast today, bringing a burst of heavy, cold rainfall to the region. Widespread totals between 1 1/2″ to 3″ are possible locally, according to the National Weather Service, which may cause localized flooding. The precipitation could provide needed drought relief — most of the area along and north of Highway 92 remains in moderate drought, with severe conditions primarily along the South Skunk River basin. Much cooler air is back in the region this week, with daytime highs in the mid-50s and overnight lows mainly in the 40s later in the week. Additional chances for rain return overnight Tuesday through Thursday evening.
