Central College swept American Rivers Conference football player of the week honors. Quarterback Blaine Hawkins received league offensive honors for the 10th time, cornerback Brayden Egli was named defensive player of the week and kicker Logan Sunvold was cited for special teams. The No. 10-ranked Dutch (7-0 overall, 5-0 conference) overwhelmed Loras College 53-19 Saturday.
It was yet another huge day for Hawkins, who threw for six touchdowns and ran for another in just over a half of action as the Dutch raced to a 44-3 lead at intermission. His 89-yard TD strike to Tanner Schminke was the longest of his career. Hawkins completed 28-of-36 passes for 447 yards. In the past four games, Hawkins has thrown 25 touchdown passes. It’s the fourth time this season he’s received the conference award.
Egli picked off three passes and returned them a combined 42 yards. He had a 70-yard return for a touchdown called back due to a penalty. He also notched seven tackles. It’s the third time Egli has received defensive player of the week distinction and the first time this season. Head Coach Jeff McMartin says Egli is a complete player who plays with passion.
Sunvold converted 5-of-5 extra-point tries and connected on field goal attempts of 23 and 35 yards. He averaged 58.0 yards on nine kickoffs.
Central travels to Decorah Saturday for a 1 p.m. league game at Luther College.
