The #7 ranked Pella Christian football team saw their season come to an end Friday night in a 35-14 loss to Class 1A’s #5 ranked Dike-New Hartford.
The night got off to a rough start as the opening kickoff fell between four Eagles, and the Wolverines pounced on it. Dike-New Hartford took advantage of the short field to punch in a quick score two minutes into the game. Pella Christian bounced back to score on the ensuing drive as Isaac Kacmarynski connected with Eric Mulder on a 10-yard jump ball touchdown to even the score at sevens. After the Wolverines’ quarterback scored from a yard out late in the first quarter, Kacmarynski and Mulder connected from four yards out early in the second to tie the game back up at 14. Dike ran another quarterback sneak to score before halftime to make it 21-14 at the break.
In the second half, Pella Christian had their opportunities, but just couldn’t connect in some key moments, as the Wolverines’ backup running back Micah Walston punched in two scores to down the Eagles by 3 scores. Eagles Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski gave credit to the Dike-New Hartford offensive line in the victory.
“I think they ran the ball and blocked really well. They did some nice things with their formations. They’d go double tight, they’d go no tight ends. They just beat us at the point of attack quite honestly and their O-Line was just really good.”
The Eagles finish the season with an 8-2 record and lose six seniors from this year’s team.
