The Norwalk football team saw its season come to a close Friday at Webster City, falling 57-20 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Warriors were playing with backup quarterback Ky Pearson, who made his first varsity start in the position. The Lynx dominated the first quarter, scoring three touchdowns while forcing Norwalk to two three-and-outs. The Warriors came to life in the second quarter, starting with an 11-yard Pearson touchdown run. Norwalk forced a Webster City fumble two plays later, and another Pearson touchdown run followed. With momentum on their side, Norwalk kicked and recovered a surprise onside kick, but turned it over on downs. The Lynx added another touchdown and 2-point conversion to make it 29-13 at the half.

Despite gaining momentum, Norwalk was held off the board in the third quarter, as the single wing offense of Webster City could not be stopped. A 70-yard touchdown run by Pearson was too little too late, as Webster City put the running clock rule into effect. Head Coach Paul Patterson says mistakes by his team added up to the result, but is proud of the progress this team has made.

“It snowballed, and unfortunately, we were at the bottom of the hill when that snowball came all the way down, as opposed to being at the top of the hill before we could get it started. I’m really proud of our kids. 6-4 is a great season for us compared to 2-6 last year. We played in a tough district and a tough schedule. Really proud of our kids.”

Quarterback Ky Pearson scored all three touchdowns in his final game. Norwalk finishes the season 6-4. 19 seniors will depart the program.
