The last two individuals to hold office in Iowa’s current House District 28 will be vying for the two open seats incorporating most of Marion County after the new legislative maps take effect.
Current Representative Jon Thorup has announced he will be seeking re-election to the Iowa Legislature in the new Senate District 19.
Thorup was first elected in 2018 to the Iowa House of Representatives, serving a district made up of portions of Jasper, Marion and Lucas Counties.
After one year of service, Thorup was elected to house leadership as Assistant Majority Leader, a post that he still holds today.
Former State Representative Greg Heartsill has announced his candidacy for the open seat in the newly created House District 37.
The new house district includes most of Marion County (excluding Knoxville, Franklin, and Union Townships), the western portion of Mahaska County, and the southern portion of Jasper County.
Heartsill served as State Representative for portions of Jasper, Marion, and Lucas Counties in the 85th through 87th General Assemblies
