A Marion County Jail inmate was pronounced dead after he took his own life while in custody Thursday evening. Shortly before 10:00 p.m., jail staff were alerted to a medical emergency, and found 47-year-old Corey D. Lashomb of Knoxville unresponsive in his cell.
Jail staff began providing medical aid. Lashomb was transported by Knoxville Fire and Rescue to Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy and investigation are being performed.
Lashomb was booked into the jail Wednesday evening for Domestic Abuse Assault and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
