It was another dominating performance Saturday for the Central College football team, as the 9th-ranked Dutch knocked out Dubuque 56-7 to clinch an outright American Rivers Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs. The game was heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
Quarterback Blaine Hawkins continued his record shattering season with a school record 34 completions on 44 attempts, throwing for 283 yards and six touchdowns. He broke the single-season ARC record with 39 league touchdown passes, and has 45 for the season to lead the country. He also ran for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Jason Hopp led the best-in-the-nation offense Saturday, rushing for 140 yards on 22 carries and catching nine passes for 79 yards. Both Erik Knaack and Tanner Schminke caught a pair of touchdown passes. Kicker Logan Sunvold made all eight of his extra points, giving him a school record 63 for the year.
Central is 9-0 on the season and 7-0 in league play. They’ll look to close out their first undefeated regular season since 2009 when they travel to Storm Lake to battle Buena Vista next Saturday.
