PCM’s volleyball squad has optimism surrounding their team with the talented underclassmen that stepped up in 2021.

One particular Mustangs underclassman that stepped up in 2021 was sophomore Reese Palm. Palm had an efficiency percentage of .053, sixth on the team. Palm was also fifth on the team in kills with a total of 53. What Palm specialized in with her move to middle hitter was her 22 blocks, leading the way for PCM. Coach Mike Vittetoe tells KRLS Sports that he was impressed with Palm’s progression throughout the season.

“We put her in the middle hitting position because we needed a middle hitter. I didn’t know if she was a true middle hitter, but she is one that came a long way from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. She started getting more aggressive and understood what it took to be a middle hitter. At the beginning of the season, close balls were coming over the net and she would set them or else back up and pass them versus attacking any ball that was near the net. She got that mindset, understood what it took to be a middle. You need to be in control of that. Any ball close to that you need to be attacking it.”

PCM will look to underclassmen like Palm, Addyson Hedgewood, and Eliana Buswell to be key contributors for the Mustangs in 2022. PCM finished the 2021 season 11-22.
