A master plan is being formulated for City of Knoxville Parks & Recreation to address future improvements that are needed for the VA redevelopment, Auld Park, a new east park, trail extensions and more. Parks & Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers says having quality recreation opportunities drives the economic development that Knoxville is working toward.
“People want trails and parks as they build new homes, bring their businesses to town, as they look for a place to live and raise their families. I obviously know it’s important, but it’s nice to see this coming from these studies as something that’s important, it’s not just coming from my mouth. These things will drive that economic development, especially the VA campus. There’s plans for the trail to continue through there and to have some open areas in there for some park space. Those things are key in keeping things moving, keeping people active, and attracting new people to the area.”
The proposal is expected to be complete by November 23rd, with council approval tentatively set for December 6th. If approved, work would begin in January 2022. Click here and here for more information.
