Pleasantville’s football squad struggled at times to put points on the board, but they will have their dominating win over Van Buren County as their highest-scoring output of 2021.
The Trojans went into their Week Seven matchup at Van Buren on a three-game losing streak, including being dominated by Pella Christian, 55-15 the previous week. In what was considered a must-win game, Pleasantville took that mantra to heart. The Trojans exploded in the first half, putting up 38 points, including 24 in the second quarter. Parker Sheets connected in the first quarter on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Cook.
However, Pleasantville did most of their damage on the ground, as four different players found the end zone on the ground. Jacob Hiemstra had 93 yards and two scores, while Jonah Schumacher had 84 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans ran for 323 yards against the Warriors, which was a season high, and left Van Buren with a dominating 45-8 victory.
The Trojans finished the season with a 4-5 record with a 2-3 record in Class 1A District 6 play. Pleasantville lost in the first round of the playoffs to Van Meter.
