The Central College women’s tennis coaching staff led by Ryun Ferrell was named the American Rivers Conference Coaching Staff of the Year while three players were given all-conference recognition Tuesday.

Alyssa Lewton was an all-conference honoree for both singles and doubles. Bronwyn Metcalf was recognized for singles and Maddie Hartley was honored for doubles.

Ferrell, and his assistants Trevor Budewitz and Laura Bade, gives Central its first Coach of the Year honors since Bryan Mours in 2008.

Lewton was 3-4 in the No. 2 singles slot for the Dutch in conference matches. In the No. 1 doubles slot, Lewton and Hartley went 5-2 and won the league’s A-Flight doubles tournament. Metcalf was 3-5 in conference duals at No. 1 singles and placed third in the conference’s A-Flight singles tournament.

Previously, Lewton was an all-conference honoree in doubles during the 2020 season. Metcalf was an honorable mention selection in 2019 and 2020 while Hartley was just honorable mention in 2020.

Central (8-7 overall, 6-2 conference) finished in a tie for second place in the league standings, its best finish since 2003.
