HIRTA Public Transit is recruiting volunteers for their programs to support older adults, people with disabilities, people with lower income, and veterans wanting to live independently. Volunteers will provide medical transportation, companionship, and food support by completing a wide range of tasks.

Executive Director Julia Castillo tells KNIA/KRLS News that hosting volunteers and helping people in need align with HIRTA’s core vision of making a positive difference by enhancing community livability through safe, innovative, sustainable regional transportation options and promoting independent lifestyles for central Iowa residents.

Volunteering with HIRTA allows for flexible scheduling and mileage reimbursement. All volunteers must have a background check completed prior to serving with HIRTA as well as complete all required training.
