The 2021-22 girls basketball season begins today for PCM as they open at home against the Chariton Chargers.
The Mustangs are coming off having a 4-17 record overall and a 3-8 record in Heart of Iowa Conference play in 2020-21. Since the end of last season, PCM has gone under a lot of changes including at the top. Sami Allison-Rodriguez will be making her head coaching debut today after spending ten seasons being an assistant coach for four Division I College Basketball programs. The Mustangs’ roster is also changing as PCM will be returning just one starter from last season, who is Junior Point Guard Paige Steenhoek. With four brand-new starters, Allison-Rodriguez says that the biggest emphasis will potentially be defending the opposing team 84 feet.
“Defensively, we are going to get up into people’s faces. If we can get all ten in that rotation I think we can probably do some full-court press for a lot of games. Just get up and get after it.”
PCM’s season gets underway against Chariton at the Mustang Gym at 3:30 PM.
