The expectations for the Eagles boys basketball team this season are high with most of the team returning from a year ago.

Pella Christian figures to be one of the tallest teams not just in Class 2A but in the entire state. With six players standing 6’4” or taller, the Eagles will plan to utilize their size advantage on the offensive end of the floor. While having an edge in height can be helpful, it can also have its disadvantages. Eagles Head Coach J.D. Boer knows that smaller teams will look to use speed to counter Pella Christian’s size, but says they have been working on their defense since practices began to be prepared for whatever style of play they face.

“We’ve got to be prepared for some of these five out, guard-oriented offenses that we are going to see throughout the league. That’s something even on day one that we started working on to say I know we’re not necessarily this type of team, but we’ve got to act like it right now because we got to make sure that we are ready to guard. So, I think we pose a challenge with our size, but on the flipside, we have to learn how to guard.”

The Pella Christian boys basketball team opens their season on Tuesday November 30th, traveling to Albia to face the Blue Demons.
