The Indianola girls basketball team gets their season started tonight in non-conference action facing old CIML Conference rival Urbandale. The Indians are coming off of an 18-5 season and only graduating one senior, bringing back leading scorer Lauren Blake, leading defender Emily Naughton, and point guard Mara Bishop among others. Head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports he knows this group is special, as this senior class were freshman when he took over and now are leaders.

“There’s been so many times in practice these last two weeks where I’ve just kind of almost just let the girls go. Watch them interact, watch them hold each other accountable, and watch them compete against each other. The competition at practice the first few weeks are the best that we’ve had in our three plus years in Indianola. We have some outstanding leaders on this team, some girls that are hungry, and we are excited to get our season started tonight.”

The game tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA and the Indianola Activities YouTube channel, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 7:15pm, with tip-off scheduled for 7:45.
