The Pella Christian girls basketball team kicked off the winter sports season on Eagle Lane Tuesday night against #13 in Class 1A Montezuma. The Eagles fell to the Bravettes 60-50
Junior guard Joslyn Terpstra led the way for the Eagles in the contest scoring 28 of the team’s 50 points. Terpstra made 13 of her 15 free throw attempts and added four steals for the Eagles. Fellow junior guard Emri Agre contributed 10 points and four steals, and freshman guard Faith Kacmarynski scored seven points in her varsity debut. While the Eagles were unable to come away with the victory, the team showed resilience in the season opener overcoming defects of 19 at halftime and 20 at the end of the third quarter. Terpstra credited the resilience to the nothing to lose mentality that Eagles Head Coach Brad Engbers talked about before and during the game.
“One thing that was repeated a lot was just we had nothing to lose. They were hitting a lot of good shots, so there was nothing we could really do about it. They were all threes, and so that helped them get a really big lead, but yeah just focusing and there was nothing to lose so just putting it all out on the court.
With the loss, Pella Christian falls to 0-1 on the season. Both the boys and girls Eagles basketball teams will return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Albia.
