Today is Thanksgiving. It’s a federal holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November for giving thanks and for recognizing the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year.

Thanksgiving is generally thought to have been first observed by settlers in the 16th Century. In 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a law permanently making Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday of November.
