The 2021-22 season gets underway for Pleasantville’s wrestling squad tonight as they travel west for a quadrangular at Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
The Trojans will compete with the host, Martensdale, Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas, and Moravia. Pleasantville is coming into the season returning 22 athletes from the 2020-21 season, including state-qualifying wrestler at 132 lbs, Kitt Lundy. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that he is looking forward to getting the season started against quality opponents.
“Southeast Warren and Martensdale have been kind of similar to us. They got some tough kids, they have some kids that come out and compete. I think the last three years, we have all beat each other at this duel. It’s really hard to sit here and say, ‘I think we can beat these teams or not beat these teams’ because these are evenly matched teams and I look forward to seeing some of these matchups. They’ve got some tough kids; we’ve got some tough kids; Moravia has some tough kids so it’s a good first meet for all of us.”
The Trojans’ first match will be against the host, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, at 5:30 PM.
