A Knoxville man who was charged with possession of a controlled substance and assault with bodily injury will not serve prison time. 62-year-old David Cogley was taken into custody on July 4th after allegedly assaulting a female victim in a vehicle while possessing methamphetamine.

The assault charge was amended to disorderly conduct. The charge of possession of methamphetamine third or subsequent offense was upheld. Cogley pleaded guilty to both charges. The methamphetamine charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, but was suspended. Instead, Cogley was placed on probation for two years on the considerations of the defendant’s age, prior record of conviction and deferments of judgement, employment circumstances, nature of the offense, and plea agreement.
