The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad suffered its first loss of the season as Oskaloosa downed the Panthers 51-42 on Saturday in a game heard live on 95.3 KNIA. Both teams played even through a large part of the 1st half until Knoxville was able to score the final five points keyed by an Emma Dunkin three just before the halftime buzzer.

However, in the 3rd quarter the Indians closed on an 11-0 run in the last three minutes to take a 34-29 lead they would never relinquish. Oskaloosa was keyed in that second half by Pressley Blommers, who scored 13 of her 18 points in the 2nd half. Panthers Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports he again was happy with his defense but the offense needed to get better for his team to win consistently moving forward.

Ritchhart: “We just have to get better, we have to get more efficient and more comfortable. We scored 41 points which isn’t bad but we have to score more than that to have a chance to beat the good teams.”

Dunkin and Charlee Heffron led another balanced Panthers attack with ten points each. Knoxville falls to 2-1 on the season and will start South Central Conference play at Clarke on Tuesday.
