The Indianola City Council approved the new districts and precincts for future Indianola city elections at their meeting Monday. Interim City Manager Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News due to state law, the council had to approve the new maps within a certain time frame, and the maps ended with fairly equal populations with no drastic changes to the ward lines.

“Essentially we had 60 days from the date the governor signed into law the new precinct maps to the Secretary of State for review, that gave us until January 3rd to get that done. Our first council meeting with the new council, is January 3rd. So we had the option to wait on them and submit it that night once it was approved to meet that deadline, or we had to use the current council to review those.”

Dissell also said that if the Secretary of State needs to make changes to the maps, they can then bill the city for the time if it is after the January 3rd deadline. For more information, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
