The new ward maps for the City of Indianola were approved by the Indianola City Council at their most recent meeting, keeping four wards for the city council elections of the next decade.
Interim City Manager Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the city’s population of 15,833 according to the most recent census date, with the wards aiming for each ward to be approximately 3,960 residents each.
“We were actually pretty good on our makeup. Our biggest difference we had was 33, that’s 33 citizens difference from the wards. All of our wards were pretty even, they were all in the 25%, 25.1% or 24.9% population total of the city.”
Dissell also there were no major changes to the ward lines or areas from the previous maps, which needed to be sent to the Iowa Secretary of State by January 3rd.
