The City of Knoxville approved a bid for a parks & recreation master plan, which will lay out projects and initiatives to revitalize the parks in the city over a 10-year period. City Manager Heather Ussery says an added bonus will be the inclusion of the rec center in the plan.

“RDG Planning & Design of Des Moines came in with the lowest bid at $29,000. They had great references for other parks & rec master plans from other cities. There was also an option in the plan to include the rec center, an update of that master plan. We did one in 2014, so this will be an update of that. City council agreed that if we’re doing our parks, we wanted to do the rec center at the same time.”

The tasks the firm will complete are Community Engagement and Project Management, Discovery and Existing Conditions Assessment, Concept Development, and Refinement of Preferred Concept. This is expected to last throughout the first half of 2022. View details of the plan here.
